VirusScan

Protection from viruses, worms, Trojans and other forms of malicious code is an essential part of workstation security, even if a workstation is not connected to the Internet. Viruses can be carried on floppy diskettes and CDs, too.

Gateway workstations in the GP series came with McAfee VirusScan. That's why I use it myself…that, and it's easy to install and update.

Business-licensed versions of VirusScan are installed onto the workstation by launching X:\path\AV###.exe (where ### is the latest version number) and accepting all defaults.

Single-license versions of VirusScan are installed by simply inserting the VirusScan CD in the CD drive. The setup program comes up automatically (if not, type Win-R, then type D:\setup.exe in the Open field, and press Enter).

When you install either version, make sure the workstation is connected to the Internet so that, once installed, VirusScan can download the latest virus definitions automatically.
